Andi Parks’ Palatine residence was equipped with old gutters that were frequently overflowing, particularly during heavy rainfalls. This problem was a significant concern, so much so that Andi wished for new gutters as a birthday gift from her husband, Dave. The existing gutters on the upper roof were sectional gutters, with a seam right in the center. These gutters were pitched incorrectly, and the downspouts were too small to support the area of the roof. The overflow was not only inconvenient but also posed a risk to the structural integrity and aesthetic appearance of their home: with one of the main effected areas being the garden window pictured above.
To fulfill Andi’s birthday wish and address the gutter overflow issue effectively, it was proposed to replace the old, malfunctioning gutters with new, seamless gutters. These gutters are known for their efficiency in water management, fewer leaks due to the absence of joints, and a clean, streamlined appearance that enhances home exteriors.
If the gutter problems were left unaddressed, the continued overflow could lead to more severe water damage, including eroded landscapes, damaged exterior siding, continued damage to the interior, and potentially compromised foundations.
We often see what’s referred to as “invisible damage”, where water leaks behind siding and traps in insulation, drywall, and can even rot framing. Over time, these issues could lead to costly repairs and decrease the overall value of the property.
Holda tackled the problem by first conducting a comprehensive evaluation of the existing gutter system and the extent of damage caused by the overflows. Following this assessment, a custom seamless gutter system was designed and installed, tailored specifically to the dimensions and needs of Andi’s home. As part of the solution, the pitch of the garden window’s gutter was adjusted, redirecting more water to the lower gutter on the left side. The upper gutter’s pitch was also adjusted to the right, which, along with the downspout extension on the lower roof, ensured the elimination of overflow issues. The installation process was carefully managed to ensure compatibility with the existing roofing and facade, preventing any potential damage during the upgrade.
