CASE STUDY – APRIL 2026
Location: Palatine, IL
Project Type: Full south-wall siding replacement (church building)
Investment: $10,000
Timeline: 6 days

When a windstorm tore siding off the south wall of Good News in the Neighborhood, a small church in Palatine, the issue quickly became more than a repair.
With Palm Sunday and Holy Week approaching, the church needed the building fully restored: safely, cleanly, and without disrupting the congregation’s schedule.
Tim Moylan, a deacon at the church, took responsibility for the project on behalf of the pastor and the congregation. His role was to understand the problem, make the right decision, and ensure it was handled properly, all within a very tight timeframe.
This wasn’t a typical project for us.
Holda Construction focuses almost entirely on residential homes. We don’t actively pursue commercial work, and we’re selective about the projects we take on outside of that scope.
This one was different because it wasn’t approached as a commercial job.
It was a local request: a neighbor reaching out for help.
The church is located just minutes from our Palatine office. When Tim sent the initial message with a photo of the damage, the response wasn’t treated as a bid request or a formal commercial inquiry. It was handled the same way we would handle a homeowner down the street with an urgent issue.
That context shaped everything that followed:
It wasn’t about taking on a “church project.”
It was about helping a nearby property that needed to be ready in time for something important to its community.

The visible damage was straightforward: several panels of siding had been torn off, exposing the structure underneath.
What wasn’t as obvious, but became clear in the first conversation, was that the issue went deeper.
The existing siding was painted vinyl, a system that tends to deteriorate over time. As it expands and contracts, the paint fails, panels loosen, and sections become vulnerable. The storm revealed the weakest point, but not the only one.
Tim immediately made it clear that he wasn’t looking for a quick patch. He wanted to understand what would actually solve the problem.
That meant weighing real options:
The church chose to replace the entire south wall with LP SmartSide composite in a factory black finish.
For Tim, the decision came down to a few key factors:
There was no extended back-and-forth. Once the path forward was clear, the focus shifted immediately to execution.
Because the project was located just minutes away, the process moved quickly without feeling rushed.
This step gave Tim confidence that what had been discussed remotely matched the reality on site.
As the work was scheduled, communication stayed simple and direct.
Tim’s main concern was clear: the building needed to be safe, clean, and ready for Sunday.
That guided the preparation:
Every step was aligned with the same outcome — no disruption to the church’s use of the space.
The full wall replacement was completed on a single Saturday.
Crew on Site:
For Tim, what mattered most wasn’t just that the work got done — it was how it was handled:
By the end of the day:
There was no need for follow-up work or adjustments before services.

The new wall not only addressed the immediate damage but improved the building overall:
For the church, the experience came down to trust and follow-through.
Tim was able to:
A few weeks later, the church shared a public review describing the experience as prompt, professional, and completed as promised:
