It all began in 2001 when our founder, Mariusz Holda, arrived in the U.S. from Poland. Mariusz had two years of sociology under his belt at university and was a trained paramedic, having worked one year in the field. As so many are, Mariusz was inspired to explore America. He witnessed the immigration wave from Poland in the 1980s and aspired for the success stories he observed in peers who returned from America having built incredible lives. Opportunity like this felt out of reach in Poland, and Mariusz recognized a desire for independence, change and success.
With little more than his dream and determination, Mariusz set out on his journey. Deeply committed to building his new life in the U.S., he joined a small team building garages from scratch. Mariusz recognizes this as one of the most difficult periods of his life, struggling to become fluent in a new language and living near poverty, but he adapted: mastering the intricacies of framing, garage doors, and more. The 3-man crew he was a part of gained enough skill to be able to raise and create a functional garage within 7 hours. Mariusz recognizes the incredible talent these men had and is grateful for the skills he gained alongside them.
Mariusz’s commitment soon led him into the world of siding as an installer. Through his experience here, he was able to grow into a position running a crew. But his ambition didn’t stop there. After three years of working as a subcontractor, Mariusz decided it was time to forge his own path.
Disheartened by the way some general contractors treated homeowners, Mariusz envisioned a company that would do better – a company that would care. Holda Construction was born from this vision. It wasn’t just about building structures; it was about building trust, quality, and real relationships. He wanted to genuinely hear the vision of the homeowners and bring it to life. Having realized this dream is what Mariusz considers his greatest reward: feeling great pride and satisfaction when his customers feel good and pleased with him and his crew at the end of a job.
Mariusz believes in the power of visualization. Every night, he reflects on the day’s work and plans for the future. This practice has been instrumental in honing his skills and steering the business towards success.
Starting with nothing, Mariusz has come a long way. Twenty years ago, he couldn’t have imagined where he is today. Yet, he remains humble, always seeking to learn and improve. He believes that no matter how expert one becomes, there’s always room for growth.
For Mariusz, Holda Construction is more than a business; it’s a journey intertwined with his family. His wife, Barb, is the backbone of the business, managing orders and finances with unmatched precision. Together they have tackled having and raising three children while simultaneously building the business, and Mariusz is deeply grateful for the incredible mother and partner Barb has been.
Kevin, Mariusz’s oldest son, is currently balancing college with the family business, learning the ropes from the inside. He is often seen onsite helping with material delivery and installations, as is Jacob, the family’s youngest son. Wife Barbara and daughter Victoria often help out in the office.
When not in the office, Mariusz enjoys participating in crossfit and tennis.
Building the team – building skill – is something so special. I become fascinated when I see people who are so extremely good at what they do: there’s a level of art, creativity, discipline, talent, and passion there that is so rare and admirable. For example, when you think of asphalt shingles: what can be fascinating about them? Seems like nothing. But when you see how fast, organized, skillfully these materials can be used by a talented craftsman… it’s incredible. I’ve learned that when you put your heart, mind, and a skilled eye to working with those pieces of asphalt, you can create – Wow! The fact that we can then be profitable and make a living from following this passion is just incredible and fortunate.
