Excessive Heat Problems
One of the most common complaints we hear from homeowners in the hot summer months is the inability to control the excessive heat within their home.
Not only is this uncomfortable, but the inability of heat to escape the home can damage roofing materials and often leads to air conditioners running continuously, causing wear on the unit and huge energy bills. Attics often overheat, as well, leading to a higher temperature throughout the home, and making them useless for storage and access.
We addressed this very problem recently with a customer in Lake Zurich. By intervening in two ways: opening soffit vents and opening the roof, we were able to significantly and immediately reduce the heat within the house, reducing his energy bills at the same time.

What Are Soffit Vents? Why Did We Open Them?
Soffit vents play an important role in maintaining a home’s structural integrity and promoting energy efficiency. These vents are situated under the eaves of a roof, allowing continuous air intake to balance out the air exhaust from the ridge or roof vents. What Does It Mean to "Open a Roof"?
Cutting along the roof ridge line provides several significant benefits when it comes to heat management in buildings.

As warm air rises, it accumulates near the roof, but by cutting along the ridge line, the trapped heat can easily dissipate. This helps prevent the buildup of excessive heat in the attic or upper floors, reducing the need for artificial cooling systems and lowering energy consumption.
